ColusAbundance Food Recovery Program

ColusAbundance is an innovative food recovery project in Colusa County working to save perfectly good food from going to waste. Using a MealConnect, nationally known food recovery online system, we mobilize volunteers to transport food donations from food retailers to local non-profits. ColusAbundance aims to fill food security gaps in our communities, using rescued food.

HOW IT WORKS

The Food Rescue Journey

STEP 1:

We have extra! When a food retail partner has unsold or surplus food, they either contact ColusAbundance, or plan weekly scheduled pickups at their site.

STEP 2:

We're on our way! ColusAbundance then assigns  scheduled or special pickup requests to a volunteer, who delivers it to a food pantry in the same community.

STEP 3:

We weigh and report: Our volunteer weighs donated food and enters it into MealConnect, which provides monthly reports to the retail partners, including an annual tax deductible donation receipt!

STEP 4:

We give it away: The local food pantry will provide the donated food to those in need.
